Engineering now open for B.Sc. graduates

Chennai: Science graduates can now enhance their graduation degrees by taking up engineering courses.

B.Sc. graduates with 60% aggregate in mathematics will be able to take admission into second year or the third semester of engineering i.e. B.E. / B.Tech course.

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has recently notified this new regulation for admission into engineering. So far only the students with an engineering diploma could join engineering colleges for completing the degree course.

The criteria for giving admissions would solely be based on an entrance test on the basis of merit ranking.

The step was taken so as to provide a better and good job opportunity for the science graduates. The senior academic V.C.Kulandi Swamy said that there are engineering colleges like Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) that have a three year B.Tech course for science graduates. So the AICTE should have done something to have a look at this programme as this was in demand among the students.
